Double Blind Study on Herpetic Skin Lesions to be Conducted in Sarasota, Florida
(PRWEB) November 15, 2006 -- Dr. Jon Stoneburner O.D., President of Imulux, wished to announce a double blind clinical study on HSV1, 2 and 3 to be conducted in Sarasota, Florida, at the offices of Dr. Necdet Orhon.
There have been many anti-virual drugs that have proven to reduce the frequency and severity of HSV outbreaks on infected patients. These drugs also result in some patients experiencing severe side effects. Having an alternative treatment method would specifically help treat infected patients without the side effects associated with these drugs.
A new alternative energy based method has been introduced by Dr. Jon Stoneburner that proposes to help HSV infected patients without having to take a side effect inducing drug. The method consists of painting the herpes virus induced skin lesions with an activated red dye and then immediately exposing the painted area to special light. Dr. Stoneburner and some of his colleagues have found this approach to be beneficial in previous patients treated.
Another doctor, Dr. W. John Martin, M.D., Ph.D., has been studying a self-healing mechanism that can allow virus infected cells to recover from the cell damaging effects of herpes-derived viruses. He is suggesting that this healing mechanism, rather than cell killing, may explain the beneficial effects seen in Dr. Stoneburner's studies. It is actually possible that energy-based therapy delivered to one location may have a beneficial effect on virus infected cells at other locations.
Given the success in previous studies, the FDA has granted an IND to perform additional clinical studies. The study being announced today will help to validate previous study results.
The study has two main objectives:
1) In previous studies the protocol required solutions to be freshly prepared just before application. This study shall assess whether anaerobically stored solution are just as effective (a.k.a stored without exposure to air).
2) A second purpose of the study is to assess if the red dye plus the special light protocol under anaerobically stored conditions is as effective at relieving symptoms (pain and irritation) and in expediting healing.
The study will begin its tests this week in Sarasota, Florida, and will be lead in its performance by Principal Investigator Dr. W. John Martin, M.D.
If you have any questions regarding the study, you may contact Dr. Jon Stoneburner via email or via phone at 479-461-2024.
