Host of Senior LifeStyles Radio Show, Ron Kauffman, Talks the Talk and Walks the Walk as a Competitor and Winner in Florida's Senior Games

JUPITER, FL (PRWEB) November 13, 2006 -- Ron Kauffman, producer and host of the award-winning Senior LifeStyles Intelligent Talk Radio, is a proponent of health, nutrition, diet and exercise. His show often features guest experts on the benefits of good health, but Kauffman doesn't just talk the talk, he bicycles it too.

On the morning of November 12, which happened to also be Kauffman's 62nd birthday, he could be found setting up his bicycle in preparation for competition in the Florida Senior Games. These aren't like the Olympic Games where the main focus in on winning. It's much more about putting forth an effort to measure yourself against other seniors in your age group to see how good you can become and remain in your senior years.

The top 5-winners in each age group qualify and earn the right to compete in the 2006 Florida Senior Games State Championships, featuring four-time Olympic Gold medal winner Al Oerter as this year's Honorary Chair of the event. This competition, also called the Golden Games, includes a wide range of sports from golf, tennis, track & field to swimming, basketball, horseshoes, table tennis, and of course cycling.

"Every senior out there is to be congratulated," said Kauffman, "because while winning - whether a cycling time trial or other event - is a goal, the most important aspect is that all the seniors who compete in these games send a message that exercise is one of the key components to health and a quality of life that keeps the gold in our golden years." Kauffman walks the talk. He is a prostate cancer survivor, and in his age group won a 2nd & 3rd place in the events in which he competed. These competition medals come just weeks after he also received the "2006 Positive Images of Aging Award" from the Southeastern Area Agencies on Aging for his radio program, promoting a positive lifestyle to our aging boomer and senior population.

Senior LifeStyles is dedicated to informing and educating baby boomers and seniors about many of the issues and challenges facing us in the areas of health, wealth and lifestyles. Senior LifeStyles Intelligent Talk Radio, a nonprofit 501(c) (3) charitable organization was Kauffman's idea. It was launched in 2003 as a way to provide critical information about aging to the growing population of boomers and seniors locally and nationally in an easy-to-listen to and enjoyable format. In his 3-years on air, Kauffman has already conducted more than 400 live interviews with well-known local and national professionals and guest experts discussing a wide range of topics of interest to the large and growing boomer and senior population.

Senior LifeStyles is heard in South Florida from Stuart to Miami-Dade County on Clear Channel radio's talk station, AM 1230 WBZT. His daily morning show, Boomer and Senior LifeStyles Update, airs during the 7 to 9 a.m. drive time Monday through Friday. His afternoon program can be heard from 3:05 to 4:00 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. His program is also heard in on AM-1160 WJFJ in western North Carolina and South Carolina, and his syndicated newspaper column, "Senior LifeStyles" appears in the Tryon Daily Bulletin, also in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Kauffman serves on the board of directors of the Alpert Jewish Family and Children's Service in Palm Beach, is an active volunteer with the Palm Beach/Treasure Coast Area Agency on Aging, the Palm Beach County Alzheimer's Association and other South Florida charitable organizations. He and his wife Lisa, a geriatric care manager in private practice, live in Jupiter, FL.
