CFO Rising West Returns to Las Vegas in October - Speakers and Presentations Announced for 3rd Annual Event
Boston (PRWEB) July 15, 2008 -- The 3rd Annual CFO Rising West will be held at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort, October 14-17, 2008. The theme of the event, which will be hosted by CFO Conferences, is "The Way Forward: Driving Performance and Profits in a Changing World."
"In an election year that features continuing economic uncertainty, finance executives are asking, 'Where are we headed?'" said Julia Homer, SVP and chief content officer at the CFO Group, which encompasses CFO magazine, CFO.com, CFO Conferences, and CFO Research. "An event like CFO Rising West gives those executives a chance to hear how others are handling the challenges posed by market volatility, high-priced credit, supply-chain disruptions, and talent shortages-and, we hope, solutions they can take back with them."
Two keynote addresses will highlight CFO Rising West. Bill Emmott, former editor of The Economist and author of eight books on international affairs, will offer his perspective in a talk on October 15 titled "Morning in America, Again--An Outsider's View on the Economy, the Election, and America's Place in the World."
On October 16, David M. Walker, president and CEO of The Peter G. Peterson Foundation, and former Comptroller General of the United States, will address the problem of the mounting federal debt in light of demographic and economic trends. Walker's aim in his "Fiscal Wakeup Tour" is to encourage citizen involvement and to promote reform at federal, state, and local levels.
In addition to the keynotes, CFO Rising will offer case studies presented by executives from major corporations. Among these speakers: Frank Calderoni, EVP and CFO of Cisco Systems Inc., who will discuss on the role of corporate finance in business transformation; Al Drewes, SVP and CFO, The Pepsi Bottling Group Inc., who will speak on value creation in a changing marketplace; Beverly O. Elving, SVP-Finance, Applebee's International, who will explain integrated business planning and strategy following the company's acquisition by IHOP; and Jerry Boerner, executive director-finance at AT&T Mobility, who will describe a successful corporate performance infrastructure implementation.
There will also be panel discussions on several issues of importance to CFOs, including: a discussion of skill-building and career development, with a panel of executive recruiters; best practices in developing a finance executive team, featuring panelists from GE and Johnson & Johnson; and a look at IFRS, the international accounting standards.
The conference will begin with a half-day interactive workshop, "Leadership Is Personal:
Making the Most of Who You Are, What You See, and How You Show Up," facilitated by Strat Sherman of Accompli Group.
