Adversity Taught Arizona Jewelry Artist-Designer Joyce White the Beauty of Expression
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) June 23, 2008 -- Award-winning artist and jewelry designer Joyce White redefines African motif through her glass and sculpted wire jewelry. What is profound is how far White has come from her days as a forklift operator to create the beauty of her jewelry and to become a fine artist earning first place in shows like 2007-08 at the Arizona Fine Art Show and Jewelry Art and Glendale Fine Art Show in 2007.
An untimely injury allowed White to take a leap of faith and open a florist business to express her artistic side. White took broken pieces of vases that became fused glass jewelry art. Serendipity was at work when she declared her talent out loud and began receiving praise for her designs.
White's business name grew out of her identification with her African roots. White was born and raised in Mississippi. From her humble beginnings, she never dreamed of being one of 120 artists in a state competition. "Exploring my art has become synonymous with exploring my past and my pain; it has provided significant healing for me. I love the idea of this transformation of mine creating something of beauty for others to cherish and enjoy. It is about sharing hope and looking toward the future."
Committed to community service and combating domestic violence, White donates a portion of her profits to several causes including cancer survivors and family support as well as C.A.S.S. for homeless and abandoned children. Her latest contribution is The Arizona Art Alliance outreach program, servicing Domestic Violence victims,Portrait Project/The Bravery Project. It teaches women "How to focus more positively." This program assists The Jewell McFarland Lewis-Fresh Start Women's Resource Center with beds and resources for women. "My art is a way for people to express their feelings through the symbols of my jewelry designs. These are small ways I can uplift people around me," says White. "Express your imagination through my designs."
White displays her diverse palette of colors and shapes at local art shows as a juried artist since 2005. Her accomplishments include: recent finalist-Arizona Arts Commission grant awards, multiple ribbons for the past three years in Arizona Art Alliance, Arizona Artist Guild, and Tempe Artist Guild. She rose from third place in 2005 to second place in 2006 culminating in her first place win in 2007. White's next showing is November 21-23, 28-30, 2008, Sonoran Arts League,Cave Creek, Arizona. Also, White produces limited edition commissioned pieces. In addition, White is active with eWomen Network.
