For its Fourth Golf Season, The Club at Morgan Hill Grooms Course for Friendlier, Competitive Play
Lehigh Valley, PA (PRWEB) June 4, 2008 -- The Club at Morgan Hill opened for play in 2004 and has since ranked sixth and ninth in the state by Golf Week Magazine. This year, Morgan Hill has finessed its scenic course and amenities to attract more golfers in today's highly competitive golf market.
"The feedback from our players was that the course was a little too difficult," said PGA golf professional Jeff Bebbino, who has been employed by Morgan Hill since its inception. The average golfer had a hard time hitting the landing areas and negotiating their uphill chip shots from areas on the course," said Bebbino.
But for 2008, Morgan Hill has upgraded its par 71, 6,749-yard course to provide friendlier and more competitive play.
"With an eye toward more customer enjoyment and faster pace of play, Morgan Hill has converted several greenside collection areas to light rough, and widened some fairway landing spots to allow the vast majority of golfers an opportunity to play the course in a rewarding and timely fashion," stated golf reporter and president of the Lehigh Valley Golf Association, Karl Gilbert, in an article for the Easton, Pennsylvania Express-Time newspaper, May 8, 2008.
On certain holes higher grass was grown around the green complex eliminating short grass chipping areas for the most part. Before the changes, Bebbino said some players were missing the green, and the ball would run down slopes and end up in short grass collection areas a considerable distance from the green.
"The course, with four sets of tees, offers expansive views of the Delaware River, the towns of Easton and Phillipsburg, and has numerous natural hazards, rolling fairways and testy greens," wrote John Torsiello of Golfing Magazine in spring 2008.
"The routing and conditioning at the Club at Morgan Hill have never been in question. And an 8,000-square foot club house and a top restaurant don't hurt business either," Torsiello said.
Morgan Hill recently hired general manager David Karner, who brings more than a decade of golf course management, sales and marketing experience honed at some of the finest private and public courses in central New Jersey. Previously, Karner served as general manager for the Royce Brook Golf Club, Somerset County and the Basking Ridge Country Club, Basking Ridge.
"My rule of thumb is to treat all golfers as if they are club members. Everyone needs to be on the same page when it comes to service; you don't get a mulligan," Karner adds.
The Club at Morgan Hill is a semi-private golf club nestled in the rolling hills bordering Pennsylvania and New Jersey along the Delaware River corridor.
Located in the Lehigh Valley, Morgan Hill is two minutes from Interstate 78 within a 60-minute drive of New York and Philadelphia. The course has earned respect nationally for its dynamic terrain, beautiful views and challenging, unique design.
