Frilford Heath Celebrates Centenary With France vs England Golf International
London, UK (PRWEB) March 28th 2008 -- 24 years ago, when Frilford Heath Golf Club hosted the bi-annual France versus England golf international, they marked the occasion by donating the trophy that is still played for to this day. When the English Golf Union event returns to Frilford Heath this May the match, sponsored by Your Golf Holidays, will have special significance as it marks 100 years since the widely respected club was officially opened in 1908.
English golf fans will be looking for a repeat of that day in 1984 when England's golfers won by an impressive 16-8. The players should certainly be spurred on by the centenary celebrations to put on the kind of performance that reflects the heritage of the old course.
As the event is organised by the English Golf Union, sponsorship of the event is handed over to their official partners, Your Golf Holidays, who deal exclusively in tailor made golf holidays around the world. Morgan Clarke, the Owner of the company is delighted to be playing a part in such a prestigious event in the club's history: "When we first partnered with the English Golf Union, it was honour enough to be able to contribute to the development of a game that I've played since I was 8 years old, but to be included in the centenary celebrations of one of England's most charming golf clubs, is simply wonderful" he commented.
"It should be a great weekend of golf. We started in France with our French Golf Holidays programme and I have many golfing pals in France (as well as a French wife!) so I am a bit torn as to who I want to win but English golf is very strong at the moment and should still overcome the very much up-and-coming French. I was lucky enough to play for English Universities against France many years ago and I remember that that match was played out on the course and in the bar afterwards but I am sure today's players will be slightly more serious!
Whatever the outcome of the England vs France golf international, due to be played on the 10th and 11th May, Frilford Heath Golf Club will be hoping to contribute to the event's history many more times before its 200th anniversary in 2108.
