Golf Digest Names Old Corkscrew Golf Club to List of 2007 Best New Courses
Estero, FL (PRWEB) January 16, 2008 -- Golf Digest magazine, the nation's number one golf publication, has recognized Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero, Florida placing it on its prestigious list of America's Best New Courses.

Golf Digest's annual survey of America's Best New Courses is conducted by a panel of more than 800 golfers who considered nominees that had opened between May 1, 2006, and April 30, 2007. (Old Corkscrew opened in February, 2007). The panelists rated courses in the categories of shot values, design variety, resistance to scoring, memorability and aesthetics.
"I think the raters that played the course and recommended us for the Best Courses list were struck by the exceptional sereneness of Old Corkscrew. This is due to the natural beauty of the land and the fact that there are no homes on the course," said Iwinski.
Old Corkscrew is an 18-hole golf facility located on Corkscrew Road between Fort Myers and Naples, Florida on a 275-acre magnificently wooded site of native oak hammocks, towering slash pines, sabal palms and palmettos that, along with the natural flow way that cuts through the center of the property, creates beautiful vistas of lakes and preserves which enhance the golfing experience. The par-72 championship golf course is a free-standing recreational facility; no residential development will ever occur on the site.
It is a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course which is the highest standard of design offered by Nicklaus Design and includes Jack Nicklaus' personal oversight and involvement in every step of the design and construction. The Club is the only Signature Nicklaus Design non-residential course in Southwest Florida.
This is the 25th anniversary of the publication of Golf Digest's America's Best Courses" list and is included in the January issue of the magazine, which is now in circulation.
Only two golf courses in Florida were included on Golf Digest's "Best New Courses" list. The Conservatory course at Ginn Hammock Beach in Palm Coast was included at number three on the list.
This is the second major recognition that Old Corkscrew has received. In October it was named 2008 Florida Golf Course of the Year by the National Golf Course Owners Association.
