The facility's three heated indoor and outdoor hitting bays open similar to a garage, shielding golfers from harsh winter weather, while allowing golfers to see the full flight of their ball as it travels to the Resort's outdoor practice range. Unlike golfing simulators or indoor domes, Grand Traverse Resort & Spa's Winter Golf Center enables golfers to practice their full swing and gauge the distance and location of their ball to better improve their level of skill.

During the winter, the Winter Golf Center redefines the golf term "snowman," which refers to scoring 8 on a hole.
