Salon Success Academy Helps Lead Change in California Cosmetology Curriculum

Upland, CA (PRWEB) November 29, 2007 -- A newly revised cosmetology curriculum adapted by the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology adopts a more marketable approach and builds flexibility into beauty school instruction, according to Robert Gross, owner and president of Salon Success Academy (http://www.gotobeautyschool.com/home.html), who was instrumental in helping to revise and update the state program. Robert, who leads a chain of five cosmetology school (http://www.gotobeautyschool.com/hair.html) campuses located in California's Inland Empire, was appointed by the state board and worked with other appointed committee members to "bring flexibility into cosmetology programs and help classroom study to reflect the individual capabilities of each student."

Robert, who also serves on the board of the Professional Beauty Federation of California as vice-chairman, applied his extensive industry expertise while working to reorganize the state's cosmetology school (http://www.gotobeautyschool.com/courses.html) curriculum, which includes standards for hair dressing; health and safety; esthetics; and manicure and pedicure. "We wanted to help schools be able to teach whatever techniques come to the market, and thus add marketable, viable skills to the curriculum," said Robert. "This way we are training students to prepare for the realities of the industry while still carrying out the state mandates."

With over 25 years in the cosmetology business, Robert earned his cosmetology degree in 1981 and became owner and president of Salon Success Academy in 1991. He has long been active in beauty legislation, including enacting a law in 1994 that allowed his students to take their state license exam within 10 days of graduation. In 1995, Robert had a law enacted to allow the first externship program in the nation.

Robert's recent contribution, helping to revise the California cosmetology curriculum, will be beneficial in that the restructured guidelines allow schools to not only provide education but put education to work. Robert added, "Students need to gain practical experience, as well as understand how to build a client base. The revised curriculum will ensure that cosmetology students are ready for the marketplace as well as be up-to-date on current and upcoming trends in the beauty industry."

Salon Success Academies' chain of beauty schools (http://www.gotobeautyschool.com/about.html) exemplifies Robert's philosophy of combining hands-on practical application with cosmetology, skin care, or nail technology concepts. The school partners with the beauty industry to enable students to graduate with technical excellence in their profession as well as strong customer service skills.
