From November 23 to December 02, 2007 Nutcracker Key West is presented by theater veteran Joyce Stahl as a holiday gift for the southernmost city. The classic holiday ballet has been adapted with chickens, roosters, sea fans, anemones, and even a conch shell. Eleven shows are scheduled at Tennessee Williams Theatre.
During the weekend of November 29 to December 02, 2007, the famous Pirates in Paradise Festival is an adventurous holiday event. Historic Key West and Fort Taylor are transformed into a pirates' stronghold with more than 150 pirate entertainers. Tall ships, sea battles, arts and crafts, pirate sails, a living history encampment and nonstop entertainment celebrate Key West's maritime history.
On December 1, 2007, the Key West Holiday Parade is complete with festive floats, musical performances, costumed locals, and faithful members of the Conch Republic - all participating in one of the most colorful parades of the holiday season. The procession ends at Mallory Square, but the holiday cheer continues throughout the day. Food vendors along the parade route offer local cuisine. Be sure to come early to secure a great viewing spot. Admission is free.
On December 15, the Key West Lighted Boat Parade brings decorated and lighted boats to Key West Harbor and the waters of the Historic Seaport. Musical guests are featured in this event sponsored by Schooner Wharf Bar and Captain Morgan.
Key West New Year's Eve celebrations include a "conch shell drop" at Sloppy Joe's Bar, featuring the descent of a 6-foot red high heel shoe carrying drag queen Sushi at the Bourbon Street Pub/New Orleans House complex. Attendees also enjoy the descent of a pirate wench from the mast of the tall ship Liberty Clipper in the island city's Historic Seaport.
Along with the various holiday events, the Historic Key West Inns offer lodging near many great attractions including the Conch Train which starts at Duval Street and the Old Town Trolley that stops all around town. Duval Street is the center of action with life music, restaurants, bars, shops, galleries, etc. A visit to the Ernest Hemingway Home might also be high on your list and is an easy stroll from many of our small hotels.
