Earth-Friendly EcoLEDs to be Exhibited as Part of Sustainability Week Activities at the University of Arizona
Tucson, Ariz. (PRWEB) October 16, 2007 -- LED lighting from EcoLEDs will be on exhibition at the University of Arizona (UA) October 24, 2007, to help promote current sustainability technologies and solutions which can currently be implemented by communities and campuses nationwide.
"Campus Sustainability Day" will feature displays on the university mall and is an opportunity for the public to become more engaged in the UA's sustainability efforts during Sustainability Week, running from Oct. 24 to 31. Campus Sustainability Day is Wednesday, Oct. 24 and the week involves the UA hosting a number of public events, including forums on water conservation and community sustainability, a conference for educators, exhibits, forums, webcasts and more.
LED lighting technology from EcoLEDs and selected green products from BetterLifeGoods.com will be part of the sustainability solutions to be displayed on the UA mall Oct. 24. EcoLEDs are LED light bulbs that fit in standard 110 volt sockets but use only 1/10th the electricity of incandescent bulbs and a third of the wattage of compact fluorescent bulbs, without containing hazardous mercury. They are designed to replace 100-, 75- and 40-watt light bulbs with bright, long-lasting white light. More information on EcoLEDs can be found at http://www.ecoleds.com
The UA's sustainability efforts are in accordance with an initiative signed by the UA President in the spring of 2007. The "Presidents' Climate Commitment" is a pledge by more than 370 university presidents to implement projects to reduce and ultimately neutralize greenhouse gas emissions on campuses nationwide. Current examples of UA campus sustainability projects include development of a nationally recognized recycling program, implementation of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification standards for all new buildings on campus, campus wide lighting efficiency evaluations and other sustainability efforts.
