Freddy Krueger Slashes His Way to Orlando, FL, October 19-21, 2007 for Screamfest: Florida's Largest Horror Convention
Orlando, FL (Bluehost) August 11, 2007 -- 1, 2, Freddy's coming for you, and he'll be appearing only at the Wyndham Orlando Resort Oct. 19-21, bringing with him a host of horror film murderers, monsters and madmen.
Robert Englund, the actor who portrayed the iconic fedora-wearing killer in eight films for New Line Cinema headlines Screamfest 2007, Florida's largest horror convention. The fright-filled three day event is celebrating its fifth anniversary and promises more thrills than ever.
"We want people to know we put on a horror convention as big as those found anywhere in the country and as usual this year we are bringing a variety of horror guests from the classics like 'A Nightmare on Elm Street" to modern sensations like 'Saw,'" said Screamfest director Petey Mongelli.
Shawnee Smith, "Amanda" from the hugely popular "Saw" franchise will be appearing to greet fans along with Gunnar Hansen (Leatherface/Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Doug Bradley (Pinhead/Hellraiser series), Kane Hodder (Jason/Friday the 13th 7-10), Bill Moseley (Otis/Devil's Rejects), Betsy Palmer (Mrs. Voorhees/Friday the 13th) and David Naughton from "An American Werewolf in London" among many others.
Another component of the celebrity festivities will be a 25th Anniversary celebration of Friday the 13th part 3, a very notable film in the long-running series.
"A lot of general horror fans don't realize Jason did not get his hockey mask until the third film," Mongelli said.
"We're going to have a number of actors from that film, including some that have never done conventions, plus Harry Manfredini, the genius composer who scored those movies. And of course we have Richard Brooker, the first Jason to don that hockey mask," he added.
Screamfest also features music, including numerous artists with horror themes in their songs and stage show. This year's featured musical guests are Creature Feature, Voltaire, Gargamel, The Van Orsdels, Green Goblyn Project, The Undertaker and His Pals and Bad Ash.
"We try to take in all that is part of the horror culture and make it part of Screamfest. This year we will have a special tattooing component of the convention as well as a Freak Show Film Festival, a huge costume contest, seminars and various Q&A sessions with the celebrities," Mongelli said.
Add to all of that large rooms full of vendors selling every kind of horror memorabilia imaginable and it's obvious Screamfest is an event no horror fan worth his or her machete will want to miss.
