Flip Gymnastic Fest 2008 Names Phoenix Children's Hospital Beneficiary of its Inaugural Event in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) August 14, 2007 -- Every four years, television viewers sit riveted to the screen watching Olympic gymnasts perform incredible feats of balance and strength. As one of the world?s most watched events, Olympic gymnastics usually spawn the next wave of Olympic hopefuls in countries around the globe. But, for some youngsters, visions of a floor exercise or iron cross on the rings is just that, a vision. Many youngsters are often too ill or physically unable to even consider gymnastics as a future sport or recreational activity. That?s why promoter Scott Weller and his Flip Gymnastic Fest which is scheduled for January 19th and 20th 2008 at the Veteran?s Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix wants to reach out to those kids and share a night like no other.

Featuring former Olympians, elite and collegiate champions, Weller will combine the athleticism of gymnastics with the choreography and music of a cirque-like performance and bring it to the Phoenix area.

Recently, Weller entered in to an agreement with Phoenix Children?s Hospital whereby a portion of the ticket proceeds of Flip Gymnastic Fest will support cutting-edge programs and services at Arizona?s only free-standing pediatric specialty hospital.

?World-class gymnasts are some of the most finely-tuned athletes in the world and to see them perform in person is truly an electrifying experience,? said Weller, a former collegiate gymnast at the University of Michigan and who also worked with former American Olympian and former World Champion Kurt Thomas in staging gymnastic shows around the country, including performances at Sea World in Orlando and San Diego. ?Phoenix Children?s Hospital is a marvelous facility and we want to assist them as they continue to advance medical breakthroughs and treatments for kids.?

The gymnastic fest will feature dancers, artistic, rhythmic and ACRO gymnasts, trampolinists and other aerial performers in a setting similar to an Olympic competition, yet without the high-pressure scoring. ?Some of our athletes are former Olympians who are often seeking venues to express their athletic desires and gymnastic expression and the Flip Gymnastic Fest will provide that outlet for them and, at the same time, delight the fans with superb performances. Without the constraints of new scoring rules that many athletes and fans alike find difficult to understand, our athletes will have the freedom to perform routines they otherwise wouldn?t even consider doing in national or international competition,? said Weller.

One of the featured athletes will be former ASU gymnast Ashley Kelly. A five-time All American and Pac 10 medal of honor recipient and US National team member in 1999, Kelly captured the Pac 10 beam championship in 2004 and was also crowned NCAA champion in the event that same year. ?Gymnastics takes a huge amount of dedication and by the time gymnasts are finished with competing, they really have no other opportunities to perform again. Flip Gymnastic Fest provides that forum for athletes. Having a show like this offers a transition time. A time where gymnasts can still do what they know and love, while starting to experience other things they can do for rest of their lives,? said Kelly.

?Phoenix Children?s is grateful for the community?s support to ensure healthy futures for our patients,? said Angela Eliason, Special Events Coordinator in the Hospital?s Foundation. ?At

Phoenix Children?s, we?re dedicated to providing family-centered, world-class care to our patients and families. Flip Gymnastic Fest proceeds will benefit the Hospital?s programs and services most in need, enabling Phoenix Children?s to live out its mission to provide the best hope, healing, and health care for our community?s youngest patients.?
