Gary C. Robb Interviewed by Fox News and The Arizona Republic about Helicopter Safety Regulations

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) August 3, 2007 -- The recent Phoenix Arizona news helicopter crash (http://www.robbrobb.com) and subsequent deaths of four newsmen has prompted a plethora of discussions dealing with how this tragedy could have been avoided and how to prevent future disasters of this kind. Aviation attorney (http://www.robbrobb.com) Gary C. Robb was interviewed by The Arizona Republic about his concerns about the lack of helicopter safety regulations, which was published in an online article on July 28th, 2007, just days after the initial news of the collision. In addition, Robb was featured in a Fox News interview on July 30th, 2007 following the crash landing of yet another news helicopter in Dallas. These interviews focus on his belief that the FAA needs to mandate and enforce stricter helicopter flight regulations, particularly regarding the required distance of separation between a helicopter and other objects.

Gary C. Robb and his wife, Anita Robb, are respected wrongful death and aviation lawyers (http://www.robbrobb.com) based in Kansas City who have found success in a number of high profile cases, including a 2001 case dealing with a helicopter crash in the Grand Canyon. Gary Robb's experience with helicopter crash cases has spurred his advocacy of stricter regulation, and he hopes that his interviews with The Arizona Republic and Fox News will help this opinion to gain the attention of the public. Tragedies such as the collision during last Friday's police chase, and the near-tragedy that occurred in Dallas, can easily be overlooked as unfortunate, rare occurrences, but according to Gary Robb the FAA is not doing enough to prevent these all-too-frequent accidents. During Robb's interview with Fox News, he discusses the possibility of the FAA mandating a minimum number of people in each aircraft (to eliminate the dangers associated with the helicopter pilot also functioning as a reporter simultaneously), a required separation distance, and other regulations that can make flight far less risky.

FAA spokesmen stated that in situations such as the Phoenix police chase in question, helicopters are guided to a particular area from which to shoot the chase and then responsibility is turned over to pilots to maintain a safe distance between helicopters. This lack of regulations results in unnecessary risk to pilots' and reporters' lives. Robb's wrongful death practice has seen a number of tragedies such as the mid-air collision last Friday, and it is Robb's personal belief that a lack of regulation in these cases is irresponsible and unnecessarily risky. Robb appeals to the FAA, "Until the FAA mandates a 300- or 500-foot mandatory separation (between aircraft), this is going to continue to happen again and again."
