South Florida Community Will Gather to Dedicate New Torah in Honor of Terror Victim Daniel Wultz in a Grand Weston Parade
Weston, FL (PRWEB) May 1, 2007 -- Chabad of Weston will dedicate a new Torah (the holiest book in Judaism comprised of the first five books of Moses, also known as the Old Testament), Sunday, May 6, beginning at 11:00am in a public ceremony and parade from Indian Trace Elementary School (400 Indian Trace, Weston, FL 33326) to the Chabad Synagogue (18501 Tequesta Tree Park Lane, Weston, FL 33326). The Torah was commissioned by members of the local community in honor and memory of Daniel Cantor Wultz, a Weston teenager who was killed last year in Tel Aviv by a suicide bomber.
Daniel Wultz was an active member of the Weston community and Chabad. His death on Mother's Day 2006 touched the lives of millions of people around the globe and brought thousands to services in Israel and South Florida to mourn his tragic loss.
Weston Chabad Rabbi Yisroel Spalter, said: "Daniel was someone who loved and lived the Torah. This Torah scroll will always remind us of him and inspire us to live the life he no longer can."
"There is no greater tribute for any individual, living or deceased, then having a Torah written in their honor," said Tuly Wultz, Daniel's father. "From a young age, Daniel fervently embraced the wisdom and guidance of our Torah. He practiced loving his fellow man as himself with passion and was committed to daily acts of kindness, as we are instructed by our holy scriptures. As the Torah commands us to respect the life of every human being, Daniel adamantly stood for a world in which every person experienced love, tolerance and acceptance, regardless of their race, religion or culture."
"We are sure that Daniel looks down upon this sacred occasion with a smile and hope," said his mother, Sheryl Wultz. "Over the past year, I've seen countless examples of how his life and devotion inspired so many others to dedicate their own lives to making our world a more loving, tolerant, better place for all."
The Torah was handwritten in Israel over the past year. It is being flown to the United States personally by Daniel's uncles and aunts from Israel, who will join in this sacred celebration along with Daniel's immediate family, friends, and neighbors. Daniel's cousin, Avram Hersko, who will accompany the Torah on the trip to Weston, is a Nobel Prize Laureate in Biochemistry.
The public is invited to participate in this sacred occasion which will honor Daniel's life and Judaism's holiest book. The event will begin at Indian Trace Elementary School, promptly at 11:00am on Sunday, May 6, and will continue to the Chabad Synagogue of Weston, where there will be a festive meal, dancing, and celebration.
Fifty members of the local Jewish community will also be honored at the event as they individually write the last letters in the Torah Scroll before it is placed in the Ark at the Weston Chabad Synagogue.
